The local area around Demaine and Lucky Lake has always been noted for its hunting and fishing, with many records for trophies still standing. The countryside is dotted with points of interest, such as the Sand Castles, located south west of the Village of Beechy, the Snakebite (a small arm of Lake Diefenbaker – Great Fishing) 5 miles south of the Hotel, and a Commercial Fish Plant at Lucky Lake (this plant raises its own trout,). You can also buy fresh, smoked, or candied trout from the plant direct. Some come as far away as Alberta to buy the fresh fish. The Coteau Hills are very pretty at any time of the year.
The many splendid views of the hills, farms, and lakes, not to mention the abundant wildlife and bird population, make this one of the most desirable tourist destinations in Western Canada. The village of Lucky Lake – 8 miles away – offers full service grocery stores, a charter bank, a fully modern newer motel, restaurant (not licensed), an excellent garage and parts supplier, liquor vendor, 2 gas stations, towing service and an airport (no public carriers).
The Village of Beechy, 6 miles to the west of Demaine has a grocery stores, a gas station, a chartered bank, Credit Union, hotel and restaurant.
When you are touring or partaking in the recreation spots of the area don’t forget to stop at the Birsay Kitchen, where Alice will prepare a great home cooked meal for you and your party.
